OUR BELIEFS

‘United Methodists profess the historic Christian faith in God, incarnate in Jesus Christ for our salvation and ever at work in human history in the Holy Spirit.  Living in a covenant of grace under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, we participate in the first wave of God’s coming reign and pray in hope for its full realization on earth as in heaven.’

United Methodist Book of Discipline, 2008, paragraph 60 (adapted)

A cornerstone understanding of what it means to be a United Methodist is that a gift of faith that is truly from God will move us to action.  Our belief in a powerful, loving and generous God should manifest itself in the following ways…

Charity…  providing compassion and assistance to those with material needs, or who suffer from oppressive circumstances

Witness… sharing the reason for the hope we have to those who are not in relationship with God or his church

Communion… gathering within the community of faith for mutual support and edification through worship, fellowship and Christian education.

Scripture tells us that faith without works is a dead faith (James 2:17).  We practice faith as a living faith, a way of life that leads to eternal life.
